Facebook compiles PHP using virtual machines

Contemporary social networking giant Facebook is continuing its efforts to accelerate PHP, one of the BASIC programming language for creating complex Web sites.

The company has developed a virtual machine PHP, which language runs up to nine times faster than its native speed.

 PHP is a scripting language running on the server side, which was developed for web applications, but is also used as a general programming language and is now installed on more than 244 million sites and 2.1 million web servers.
